A Needs Assessment of Local Health Departments in Ohio: Relaunching the Ohio State Center for Public Health Practice
The Center for Public Health Practice (CPHP) has been part of The Ohio State University College of Public Health for nearly two decades. In spring 2026, a team from CPHP conducted (a) interviews with a sample of local health department (LHD) leaders in Ohio regarding their frontline practice needs and (b) comparative interviews with leaders of multiple university-based public health practice centers to learn how we and similar centers could best support the public health workforce moving forward, both independently and in collaboration with the Region V Public Health Training Center (PHTC).
Exciting news!
We were recently awarded $3.7 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration! This funding will allow us to continue our public health workforce development initiatives from September 30, 2026 to September 29, 2030.
With the new funding cycle, we’re rebranding! Our new name is the Great Lakes Public Health Training Center. We’ll continue serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin to increase the supply of a high-quality public health workforce, especially for rural and medically vulnerable communities.
